From the Greater to the Lesser

  • 27 June 2018

God only ever wants what is best for those who are in Christ. No matter what the circumstances or how difficult things may seem, he promises it is for our good and his glory.

The Bible offers proof of this. Consider the following passage from Paul's letter to the Romans:

Romans 8:31–32
[31] What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? [32] He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? (ESV)

Appreciating God's Glory in Creation

Clyde Kilby was an author and professor of English. He once gave ten resolutions to better mental health by considering God's glory in creation. For example:

1. At least once every day I shall look steadily up at the sky and remember that I, a consciousness with a conscience, am on a planet traveling in space with wonderfully mysterious things above and about me.

How To See God

The Bible has some interesting things to say about the importance of God’s Word and how it relates to His personal presence with us.

Everyone wants to experience a deeper intimacy with God and feel a greater sense of His presence and be filled with more of His Spirit. And the Bible tells us that the main way that happens is through His Word, the Bible.

It is helpful to think of this in trinitarian categories - God’s word as a revelation of God, more specifically of Jesus Christ and, more specifically again, the Spirit of Christ.

Read your Bible!

  • 1 February 2016

This paper may fall into the hands of someone who "loves and believes the Bible, and yet reads it Only a little." I fear there are many such people in this day. It is a clay of hustle and hurry. It is a day of talking and committee meetings, and public work. These things are all very well in their way, but I fear that they sometimes clip and cut short the private reading of the Bible. Does your conscience tell you that you are one of the persons I speak of? Listen to me, and I will say a few things which deserve your serious attention.

We Need More Knowledge, Not Less

  • 27 August 2015

Knowledge should lead to worship. The true knowledge of God will result not in our being puffed up with conceit at how knowledgeable we are, but in our falling on our faces before God in sheer wonder and crying, “O the depths of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!” Whenever our knowledge becomes dry or leaves us cold, something has gone wrong. For whenever Christ opens the Scriptures to us and we learn from him, our heart should be aglow within us. The more we know God the more we should love him.

But do you love Him?

One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.
(Psalm 27:4)
